How does CGD affect a person's quality of life?

Many people with CGD can carry on normal activites of daily life with a minimum of disruption. However, patients and their families should expect and be prepared for frequent and someitmes lengthly hospitilizations that may interfere with school and work. many public school systems offer tutoring at home or in the hospital, which can help fill in the gaps in a child's educations due to long abscences from school. If a teenager with CGD is planning to go to college, he or she should choose one located near a university medical center that has physicians who are familiar with CGD.
