About us

Shawna and Tracy met at Nall Avenue Church of the Nazarene in 1997 when they both lived in the Kansas City area. The following year Tracy moved to Chicago with his company. For six years we stayed in touch through emails, and Shawna made trips up to Chicago to see Tracy and the sites and he made trips to Kansas City as well. Last year Tracy started putting out feelers to see if Shawna was interested in something more, but Shawna (who was always interested in something more) was working through some issues. She didn't want to get her hopes up so she remained neutral.

Her neutrality came to a dramatic end when Tracy sent her a Christmas gift that literally left her jumping and squeeling in the middle of her living room. In November Shawna had taken part in National Novel Writer's Month and one of her main characters was a vampire. So Tracy had sent gifts on the off chance that the vampire popped out of Shawna's head and came to life: garlic, a stained-glass cross, The Deluxe Transitive Vampire: The Ultimate Handbook of Grammar for the innocent, the Eager, and the Doomed (which just happens to be Shawna's all-time favorite grammar book), chocolate, a very cool vampire journal, and the pièce de résistance, wooden spoons that where sharpened into stakess.

Shawna then sent an email to Tracy that began: “One day I'm going to say to heck with it, move to Chicago and marry you. And God can figure out the whole calling/ministry thing he called me to.” So in January we had our first serious date, in February we had our second, and in March we were engaged. On May 26, 2006 we began on our journey as husband and wife.
