The magic reBlog experiment is now ended. The magic reBlogger was one of Tracy's little experiments using WordPress blogging software and an application called reFeed that allowed us to subscribe to several magic blog feeds, sift out the off-topic posts, and re-blog it here. All with the permission of the original bloggers and fully credited.
The idea was to create a filtered aggregator that served as a kind of one-stop shopping for magic blog feeds. An interesting idea, but it just didn't seem to work out. Not because the bloggers wern't interested in syndicating their content — many were. It just wasn't getting a lot of traffic and frankly I was getting tired of just being a human blog filter
One potential reason forwarded by Brendan Croft was the idea that people read blogs for the whole experience from that site (the look, the feel, the non-magic posts) and you just don't get that from a filtered reBlog aggregator. Instead, what you end up with is kind of like a magician who performs an act with pieces from several other magicians' acts exactly as they would. It feels a bit dis-jointed and unsatisfying.
Maybe Brendan is right, or maybe the site just wasn't advertised enough. Either way, I have lost faith in the idea as it stands and so this experiment is now concluded. In any case, you might want to check out the links below to help sate you magic blog curiosities.
